Some, but I think managers say whatever it takes in those arguments with umpires to get their point across. I also think what he said is true, and he's just saying what everyone else is thinking and feeling anyway.

I was at that game when Bondo plunked Gardner. It was pretty clear to everyone there that it was payback for Monday.
As for Leyland's comment, he sounds frustrated. But I think his job is to hold the team together for a little longer. When we're on the brink of mathematical elimination, maybe he can start talking about the season being over. Actually, even then he shouldn't be talking like that. Fans pay a lot to see their team play and he should always talk about how the team plans to win. Even when they're 12.5 games out. (Holy crap they're 12.5 games out!)
